Dubai Municipality, Doka sign MoU for 3D printing

Dubai Municipality signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Doka during an official signing ceremony held at the Dubai Future Accelerators, formally acknowledging the partnership that will deliver the challenge set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, to ensure that 25% of all new buildings in Dubai will be built using 3D printing technology by 2030.

The MoU, which was signed by Doka Gulf’s managing director, Michael Arnold, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, marks the formal agreement between the Dubai government and a consortium of companies represented by Doka which includes 3D printing pioneer Contour Crafting, and concrete technology specialists B|A|S.

Speaking on behalf of the consortium, Arnold said: “This memorandum marks the beginning of a very exciting collaboration that will not only meet the high standards set by HH Sheikh Mohammed, but furthermore position Dubai as a global leader in the industrial 3D printing sector.”

According to Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Accelerators, “the aim of the Dubai Future Accelerators program is to connect the most innovative companies from across the globe with top government entities. We are hopeful that this partnership will accelerate the ‘3D Printing Strategy’ for Dubai and elevate the emirate as the world’s 3D printing hub.”

The Dubai 3D printing Strategy will make the emirate the world’s 3D printing hub. The strategy adopts an emerging technology that will help cut cost in many sectors, especially the medical and construction sector in Dubai. The technology will restructure economies and labour markets, and redefine productivity.
