Salini Impregilo has won a $435mn contract to build Dubai’s Meydan One Mall for which HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum layed the foundation stone at a ceremony on Wednesday night.
Major construction work is to begin this year and finish within 23 months, the Italian firm said in a statement.
Initial work involves overseeing the excavations and building the sub- and super-structures for the complex, including the foundations for the indoor ski slope and the concrete support for the mall’s steel retractable roof.
The Mall is part of a massive urban development project located between Meydan and Al Khail Road, close to the heart of the city.
It will feature two metro lines passing underneath it, one of which the Green Line will connect to Dubai Airport by 2020, the contractor said.
The contract is among EUR 1.7bn ($1.82bn) worth of projects booked by Salini Impregilo so far this year.
Other projects executed in the UAE include the Ras Al Khor Interchange and Parallel Roads R 881 in Dubai, as well as the Deep Sewer Tunnel and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
