Dubai Municipality honored the winners of the Zero Accident Construction Challenge initiative, which witnessed a great response from the contracting companies operating in the Emirate of Dubai.
The initiative is aimed to enhance Dubai’s unique position in the construction sector, which is considered one of the most vital sectors of economic development and will contribute to the creation of a competitive and stimulating environment for the employees working in this sector.
“This is one of the pioneering initiatives in which the Municipality seeks to enhance safety standards in construction sites in the Emirate, because we believe in the importance of providing a safe environment for workers in these locations,” said Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
“We value the efforts of all the participants in the initiative and commend their commitment to the standards and regulations that underpin this challenge. We emphasize the importance of sustainability of this care by implementing construction safety requirements and working as a team to encourage contractors to take all preventive and precautionary measures to protect workers and ensure their safety,” he added.
The companies honored in the first category of challenge included Khansaheb Civil Engineering Company, Alec Engineering & Contracting Company and Al Naboodah Contracting Company. The second category winners included Laing Orourke Middle East Holdings Limited, Multiplex Constructions Company, and Fujairah National Contracting Company, while Frayland won in the third category, the fourth category winner was Al Ashram Contracting and the fifth category was won by Roberts Constructions and Nurol. The sixth category was won by Al Madar Engineering Company and the Julfar Contracting Company. The seventh category was won by ADC Contracting and Ammon Contracting Company.
The idea of the initiative was to launch a challenge for the contracting companies to compete with each other to achieve the largest number of working hours in the construction sites without any accidents during construction or violations of the security and safety requirements as well as preservation of life and property in accordance with innovative standards and mechanisms of work and by applying the provisions contained in the Safety Practice Manual in construction work issued by Dubai Municipality.
The participants in the challenge intensified the audits, trained and qualified their manpower and used the latest technologies and equipment to contribute to the completion of working hours without any construction accidents. Dubai Municipality held a number of events and activities associated with the introduction of the initiative, in addition to intensifying visits by Municipality action teams to all construction sites to provide guidance and directives to the technical engineering staff of construction companies.
