The chief executive of Habtoor Leighton Group has been detained by authorities in Dubai.
In a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange this morning, Cimic, which owns a 45 percent stake in the contractor, said Jose Antonio Lopez-Monis was being held by Dubai police, without providing any further details.
As a result of a complaint filed with police in Dubai, the CEO and MD of HLG, José Antonio López-Monís, was arrested after market close on Wednesday, August 17, the statement said.
HLG is assisting Mr López-Monís. The company will inform the market as required and as further information is available, it added.
López-Monís joined HLG as chief executive and managing director in October 2012. He was previously director of Global Business Development at Spanish construction company Dragados.
Habtoor Leighton Group has worked on a large number of high profile projects throught the GCC, from luxury hotels to major infrastructure projects.
