Emirates Global Aluminium announced the appointment of Simon Storesund to the newly created position of Chief Supply Chain & Business Development Officer, as the company increases its focus on strategic procurement and responsible sourcing.
Storesund will report to EGA’s CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban and will be a member of the company’s executive committee. He joins EGA from Norsk Hydro where he currently holds the position of senior vice president and head of commercial & business development in the Bauxite & Alumina business area.
Storesund has more than 30 years of experience in the aluminium industry, mainly in leadership roles within the areas of sales, trading, and procurement.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said: “EGA spends billions of dollars every year on the goods and services we need. Our demand creates opportunities for new companies and industries to supply us, further contributing to economic growth in the countries where we operate.
“We also expect those goods and services to be made responsibly to the environmental, social and governance standards our stakeholders expect. I welcome Simon Storesund to EGA and to this important new role for our company.”
EGA spent over USD3.9 billion procuring goods and services in 2020, with more than USD1.7 billion spent in the UAE and the Republic of Guinea, where the company has operations.
EGA aims to double its absolute contribution to the economy in the countries where it operates by 2040, partly through increasing strategic procurement and spurring the development of new supply industries.
Last month EGA joined the Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology’s In-Country Value Programme, which aims to increase the proportion of goods and services UAE companies procure locally and contribute to the achievement of the Operation 300bn strategy to grow UAE industry.
EGA aims to be measured amongst the world’s most responsible metals and mining companies, with strong environmental, social and governance performance both in its own operations and activities the company generates in its supply chain.
