Dubais Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded phases 2 and 3 of the Dubai Tram to SYSTRA in association with AECOM.
The pair will take charge of transport planning, preliminary design and invitations to tender for the second and third phases, a process which is expected to last around 14 months, SYSTRA said in a statement.
Phase 2 of the Dubai Tram will stretch for 6 km and pass through nine stations, serve tourist hubs such as Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Burj Al-Arab, and Mall of Emirates (MOE) where it will connect with the existing metro line and the future megaproject Jumeirah Central Project, announced by Dubai Holding in September.
Phase 3 will be built along Jumeirah Beach Road and eventually extend for 16.6km to Bur Dubai passing through 19 stations.
SYSTRA previously worked on the design for both lines of the Dubai Metro and the first phase of the Dubai tram, inaugurated in November 2014.
Furthermore, the Group won a prize for the design of the Hyperloop One Line to connect Dubai with Fujairah.
