Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has appointed real estate heavyweight HE Abdulla Al Habbai as the new chairman of Dubai Holding.
Al Habbai will continue to serve in his current position as group chairman of Meraas, according to a statement issued by Dubai Media Office.
He replaces Mohammed Al Gergawi, Dubai Holdings founding chairman, who stepped down last month after 18 years in charge of the group.
HH Sheikh Mohammed said: As a business leader who has steered major projects that have contributed to realising Dubais and the UAEs growth vision, Abdulla Al Habbai is ideally placed to lead Dubai Holding in its next phase of growth.
He has a proven record of successfully delivering projects that have supported the development of key sectors. I am confident that his extensive experience and expertise will enable him to steer Dubai Holding in achieving new levels of industry development and innovation.
Meraas has emerged as one of Dubais highest profile property developers in recent years with projects such as The Beach, Citywalk and Bluewaters Island.
His Highness added that Dubai Holding would continue to invest in projects and initiatives that will deliver new creative, infrastructural and technological excellence, and add value to the knowledge-based economy, in line with the UAEs ambitious growth plans.
HE Abdulla Al Habbai extended his gratitude to His Highness for the trust and confidence he has placed in him.
He said Dubai Holding has delivered several landmark projects that have helped raise the countrys global profile and made it a prominent investment hub.
Al Habbai said he is committed to continue working to further enhance Dubai Holdings contributions to the economy.
