Jeddah Islamic Port achieved a significant milestone by setting a new monthly record, handling an impressive 511,348 TEUs. This accomplishment underscores not only the port’s critical role in regional and global trade but also its vital position in transshipment trade, container handling, and goods movement along the strategic Red Sea coast.
This milestone is a testament to the relentless efforts of the Saudi Ports Authority, “Mawani,” in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s maritime sector, enhancing operational efficiency, and increasing container throughput. These actions align with the national strategy for transport and logistics services, which aims to reinforce the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
The record also signifies the successful collaboration between Mawani and its strategic partners. Numerous joint projects and agreements have been initiated to enhance infrastructure and upgrade the container terminals. These initiatives include the establishment of new docks with more considerable design depths, deepening approach channels, turning basins and sea lanes, and equipping them with modern, automated, and environmentally friendly equipment. All these concerted efforts aim to catapult Jeddah Islamic Port into the elite list of the world’s top 10 ports.
This recent accomplishment in October significantly surpasses the previous record set by Jeddah Islamic Port in July 2023 when it handled 491,197 standard containers. In addition to developing new records, the port has received several international accolades. These include the Advanced Port Infrastructure Award at the Landmarks of Logistics 2023, the “Port of the Year” award at the Logistics and Transport Awards ceremony in the United Arab Emirates in 2023, and the “Best Port” award at the 2022 International Green Shipping Summit Awards in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
