Dubais Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a AED 375mn ($102mn) contract to build the tunnels and roads leading to the Jewel pf the Creek project.
The deal contract was awarded in collaboration with the project developer Dubai International Real Estate company, according to statement on the Emirates News Agency, WAM.
Construction of the mixed use project, which sits on the north side of the creek between Al Maktoum Bridge and the Floating Bridge, is set to be complete in the first half of 2019.
It will be a major tourist destination comprising three hotels and a number of towers containing serviced apartments, 20 restaurants, a 65-boat capacity marina, a mini mall and parking for about 6,000 vehicles.
The project, in which construction works have recently started, is primarily aimed to provide entry and exit points linking with the ground and basement access points of the Jewel of the Creek Project, said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.
He said work will involve construction of roads, subways, and slipways linking the ground level and the basement parking of the project with the roads and transport network of Baniyas Road to the north, and Al Ittihad Road to the east.
It also involves construction of a footbridge over Baniyas Road and lighting works along with protection and shifting of existing utility lines.
