Dubai Municipality, until the end of December 2017, has approved about 1,000ha as the areas of large construction projects in the emirate.
It includes a floor space of 1,100ha distributed across the various categories such as residential, offices, public services, residential/commercial, tourist, and open areas.
Eng Dawoud Al Hajiri, assistant director general of Dubai Municipality for engineering and planning sector, said that the Municipality approves masterplans for major projects in line with the planning standards that ensure the sustainability of urban development in Dubai.
This is in line with the requirements of service providers to ensure the provision of infrastructure services within the international quality standards to make society happy and to achieve a happy and sustainable city.
Al Hajiri said that during 2017, Dubai Municipality approved seven major development projects and prepared 13 planning studies to rehabilitate and re-plan some areas in Dubai, aimed at providing better services, increasing public and recreational facilities and improving the walking capability of residents of these areas, all part of a journey to achieve the happiness of citizens and residents in Dubai.
He said that the area approved for projects during 2017 increased by 71% over the previous year and the floor space of the approved urban projects increased by more than 73%.

Eng. Najib Mohammed Saleh, director of planning department at Dubai Municipality, said that the department seeks to reduce the time necessary to complete the service of approving the master plans for major urban projects in order to make the customers happy and provide excellent services.
The Planning Department was able to complete the approval of 500 applications for urban projects it received during 2017, with an average implementation time of no more than 8 days, or 16% less than in 2016. The Department intends to continue improving and developing services to customers and partners in order to achieve the Municipalitys vision of building a happy and sustainable city.
