Dubai has approved the second phase of a huge sewage treatment plant in Jebel Ali at a cost of AED1.3bn ($350mn).
The project was given the green light by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality, news agency WAM said.
“The Jebel Ali Plant is equipped with the advanced tools in the field of sewage treatment, and its final cost will touch AED2.849bn, with a capacity of about 675,000 m3 per day instead of the current 300,000 m3 produced by the plant,” said Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
He added that the plant will help cope with expected future expansion of Dubai city and contribute towards servicing 1.35 million people.
Lootah said the plant will not need further expansion until 2025.
