DP World has launched an internship programme for Emiratis studying abroad at the Annual UAE Student Forum in Washington DC. The Emirati Abroad Programme offers UAE nationals studying in countries where the company operates the opportunity to gain experience in diverse cultures and learn about global trade.
The programme aligns with the UAE Centennial 2071 plan, which aims to make the UAE the best country in the world by 2071 and is based on four aspects: education, economy, government development, and community cohesion. It focuses on education and the development of future generations by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to help them succeed in a fast-developing world.
Internships will last between two and three months, and will be offered across DP Worlds global portfolio of 78 marine and inland terminals in 40 countries across six continents. The experience will entail an industry orientation, followed by an opportunity to work on live business projects and attend networking events, while also getting involved in DP Worlds sustainability initiatives to give back to the community.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO, DP World, said: “Our continued investment in the development of our youth will be the foundation of our growth as a company and country and more importantly, this will be our legacy. Our future leaders need to be prepared for a world which is very different to what we see today, where technology and innovation will play a key role in the way we trade across borders. DP World is at the forefront of this change and can offer Emirati students the opportunity to learn and grow their skill sets by experiencing what we do and be a part of our growth journey as we lead the future of world trade.”
Maha Al Qattan, senior vice president, human capital department, DP World, said: “Investing in the capabilities of future generations is part of our sustainable legacy to groom new leaders of trade and business who will inherit what we do today. By providing internship opportunities around the world for UAE nationals studying in countries where we operate, we are enriching their experiences and their understanding of global economies. The Emirati Abroad Programme will help them make connections, strengthen their prospects and understand how business and trade works in a variety of settings.”
