Dubai-based Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), a DP World Company and the trade and logistics hub for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with leading multinationals in the zone for its internship programme Tumoohi.
Under this initiative, Emirati graduates will intern with partner companies between six months to one year, said a statement from Jafza.
The ceremony was held at the ongoing Careers UAE at the Dubai World Trade Centre in the presence of Adel Bin Turkeya, chief resources officer and Khawla Ali, head of human resources.
In the second phase of Tumoohi, Jafza is joined by leading organisations in the UAE, including Unilever, Proclad, Agility, MAN Truck & Bus AG, BSA Ahmad Bin Hezeem & Associates, Ocean Fair International, Nestle, and Ajman University.
Bin Sulayem said: Through Tumoohi, Emirati graduates will train with elite companies based in Jafza that will equip them with the knowledge and skills to make their mark in the corporate world. The programme is a unique opportunity for youngsters to gain experience in a range of business sectors and participate in the economic growth of the nation.
Since the launch of the initiative in December 2016, Jafza has received over 100 applications with trainees receiving a monthly salary and the possibility of employment in the partner companies based on their ability and availability, said a statement.
Tumoohis objective is to provide on-the-job training and to leverage Jafzas plans for developing a strategic organisational framework in accordance with Dubai Plan 2021 of providing job opportunities for graduates, creating a competitive, innovative workforce.
Candidates are mentored by highly experienced professionals and undertake projects across a range of business activities from marketing and business development to customer service, accounting, human resources, information technology and administration, it stated.
