Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai comprising the metro, tram, buses and marine transit means, and taxicabs, reported to have lifted 3,286,873 riders during the New Years holiday (from 31 December 2017 to 01 January 2018).
Dubai Metro lifted 1,288,316 riders, public buses served 722,572 riders, marine transport modes ferried 124,159 rides, and 53,234 riders used the Dubai Tram, while RTAs taxicabs during the mentioned two days carried 1,098,592 riders.
Scores upon scores of people descended upon Dubai’s key locations in Downtown Dubai, Dubai Festival City, Global Village, Burj Al Arab, and Jumeirah Beach, to enjoy uninterrupted views of the fireworks and NYE celebrations.
RTA, in coordination with the Dubai Events Security Committee and Emaar, had announced preparations for managing the traffic movement for the New Year event ‘Light Up 2018’ at Burj Khalifa, well in advance. The measures included road closures on streets such as Financial Centre Street and Al Sukuk Street, and opening of pedestrian crossing points on Sheikh Zayed Road near Burj Khalifa Metro Station and Business Bay Metro Station. More buses were provided to take visitors out from the Downtown Dubai area to metro stations free of charge.
