Mohsen Ahmad oversees Dubai South’s entire Logistics District as its Chief Executive Officer, leading the overall execution of all operations, and managing its financial planning. He is responsible to set the strategic directions and goals of the District and lay the groundwork for future developments of the district to ensure sustainable growth. Ahmad has performed a major role in the launching of the District, where he was instrumental in the setting up of the Free Zone and the establishment of the Dubai Logistics Corridor, making it possible to connect the Jebel Ali Port with Al Maktoum International Airport in a single custom-bonded zone. He joined Dubai South in 2008, following more than 10 years of experience within the supply chains and logistics sector, holding management posts at Al Futtaim Logistics and Dubai Aluminum Company (DUBAL) as Head of Inbound Logistics.
In 2019, EZDubai was launched, a 920,000 square-metre purpose-built e-commerce zone within Dubai South’s Logistics District set to unlock vast potentials in online commerce. It provides a range of Logistics facilities and business solutions designed for startups, SMEs, innovation labs and incubation centers to support local, regional and trans-continental businesses serving both business-to-business and end consumers.
With the massive growth of e-commerce in the GCC and Egypt expected growth from USD 7 billion to USD 24 billion by 2022, EZDubai seeks to add a strong value to the sector by providing an efficient supply chain focused on structured regulatory framework, complete ecosystem, and the dual warehouse concept.
“Traditionally the e-commerce elements are scattered around but we thought why not just bring them all closer together in one area. We have an airport and seaport nearby and also a great land transportation network. When you put all this together you create a more dynamic logistics hub. By having such a dedicated area to fulfill the different operational aspects of delivering products to the final customer EZDubai cuts down time wasted and increased productivity,” remarked Mohsen.
Furthermore Dubai South announced new initiatives to further boost the business activities of its partners which include startups, SMEs and multinational companies, and most recently, individual professionals in specialized professional sectors. For example, Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC), which is the licensing and regulatory body for Dubai South free zones, have announced that freelancers can now avail the opportunity to work under a freelancer work permit, in line with global trends of a growing number of professionals are seeking for work options that have flexible working hours and work-from-home agreements.
This new development reflects Dubai South and DACC’s commitment to help position the emirate as the most innovative business hub attuned to the modern needs of both companies.
