Gulftainer’s Group CEO, Peter Richards, has played a vital role in bringing the business up to its current standing as a top operator of regional ports and terminals and a customised supply chain and logistics solutions provider. Peter, who has over 36 years of experience operating and managing ports and container terminals, has been instrumental in converting Gulftainer into a platform that facilitates integrated supply chains and logistics solutions.
Being the first and only Middle Eastern company to manage and operate ports in the USA market, Gulftainer has established a significant international presence under Peter’s leadership. The two UAE flagship container terminals in the Middle East, Sharjah Container Terminal and Khorfakkan Container Terminal, are strategically situated outside the Straits of Hormuz on Sharjah’s Indian Ocean coast and serve the main east-west shipping routes. Gulftainer is the company that runs these terminals. In the markets of Saudi Arabia and Iraq, it also oversees logistics hubs and container terminals.
Gulftainer recently organised a roadshow in China to highlight the integrated trade and logistics capabilities of the Northern Emirates’ gateways, ideally situated to service the Indian Ocean rim, the UAE, and east-west shipping lanes.
The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority and Gulftainer recently extended their concession agreements for the Sharjah Container Terminal and Khorfakkan Container Terminal for an additional 35 years, a noteworthy development. This calculated action underscores the significance of the Emirate of Sharjah as a crucial trade gateway for the region and is consistent with revolutionising the UAE’s supply chain.
