Saudi developer Fawaz Abdulaziz Al Hokair Company has won a contract to develop a commercial and entertainment district adjacent to King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah, reports say.
The development, King Abdulaziz International Airport City, will have two hotels and commercial and administrative centres, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said citing an aviation official.
The land for the project has already been handed over the report added without indicating how much the development would cost.
King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah is likely to operate well beyond its planned capacity this year, an airport official warned last week.
Passenger numbers are expected to exceed 31 million in 2016 compared to its supposed capacity of 8.5 million.
KAIA is known for its Hajj terminal which can handle 80,000 passengers at a time. The airport is undergoing a phased expansion to 80 million passengers per year by 2035.
