The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) expects to complete all major work related to the $550mn Dubai Water Canal next month.
In a series of tweets the agency revealed it had started applying the final touches to the project by cleansing the water, removing sedimentation and refilling it from the sea.
Paving of the pedestrian pathways in preparation for the official opening next November is also underway.
Surrounding the waterway will be a 5km boardwalk lined with food and beverage and retail outlets and comprises of three zones: The Water Network, Green Network and Public Realm.
Within those three zones, there will be a shopping centre, four hotels, 450 restaurants, luxury housing, walkways and cycle paths.
The 3km canal extension will link Business Bay with the Arabian Gulf, turning central Dubai into an island.
It will be 6 metres deep and will be crossed by eight-metre high bridges while there will be a series of canalside stations for water transportation.
