Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has awarded a contract to install the main 400 kilovolt (kV) power transformer for the Hassyan Clean Coal Power Plant.
The deal, which went to an unnamed company, is in addition to a number of other projects at the plant worth a total cost of AED 197mn ($53.6mn).
The Hassyan clean coal power plant is being developed by ACWA Power and DEWA under the IPP model. It is the first of its kind in the region and will generate 2,400 megawatts (MW) when its starts up in March 2023.
Harbin Electric International and General Electric (GE) were awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build the plant in July.
“The project aims to develop the 400 kV electricity transmission networks, by connecting the substation with current electricity networks. DEWA works to build world-class energy infrastructure that meets Dubais development demands,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
