French utility Engie and Doosan Heavy Industries have won a contract from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to build a 1,504 megawatt (MW) power plant at an estimated cost of $1.2bn.
The deal for the Fadhili power plant was awarded by SEC in partnership with national oil giant Saudi Aramco.
Scheduled to be operational by November 2019, the Fadhili power plant will be owned 30 percent by Saudi Electricity, 30 percent by Aramco and 40 percent by private sector partners, it stated.
The power plant is part of the Fadhili gas processing project located 85 kilometers away in the north of Jubail Port.
