Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has unveiled plans to leverage its extensive rooftop area by installing solar panels.
Around 4,500 photovoltaic modules will be placed over a 10.5km2 section of the Dubai International Convention Centre (DICEC) rooftop to generate 1.2MW of electricity while DWTC says it will also build a solar-powered 6-storey car park by adding flat plate collectors.
One Central, DWTCs newest mixed-use development has pioneered sustainability with its investments in solar rooftop technologies and innovative clean energy solutions. The project has already been awarded LEED Gold Status and is expected to generate 58 percent of its hot water using solar technology.
All initiatives follow the Dubai Green Building Regulations and renewable energy guidelines from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
DWTCs commitment to contributing to the UAEs clean energy agenda is exemplified in our deployment of pioneering sustainable and renewable energy solutions across the DWTC complex, said His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA).
The integral convention and exhibition assets in particular will spearhead our efforts to drive innovation and be the future global benchmark for sustainability, as it is aligned with Dubais master plan for a green future.
The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, calls for the use of sustainable energy with solar power expected to account for a quarter of electricity demand by 2030.
