President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Mr. Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Chairman and CEO of Alstom Group, to discuss the development and implementation of the sixth line of the Cairo Metro. The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir.
The discussions focused on the progress of Cairo’s transport system as part of efforts to expand sustainable, green transit networks, and highlighted the completion of the metro system to ensure high-quality service for the public.
The sixth metro line offers significant economic benefits by reducing traffic congestion and minimising surface trips across various transportation modes. It will also help protect the environment and public health by reducing pollution and noise, as it operates on clean electric energy from the design stage through to its operation.
The Sixth Cairo Metro Line will feature 26 stations, covering 34 kilometres from Al-Khosos in the north to New Maadi in the south. The line will intersect with the first line at Demerdash station, the third line at Abbasiya station, and the fourth line at Magra Oyoun and Sayyeda Aisha stations. This will result in considerable time savings for metro passengers and other surface transportation users. Additionally, the line will enhance the economic and social development of the areas it serves, contributing to sustainable growth in Cairo’s transport sector.
Further discussions also covered other significant projects and future cooperation in the transport sector to address the evolving needs of the public.
