A fire at an under construction tower project in Downtown Dubai close to Burj Khalifa has been brought under control and cooling operations are under way, according to Dubai Media Office.
The blaze at the Address Residences Fountain Views, being developed by Emaar Properties, sent smoke billowing across the city early Sunday morning.
Workers were evacuated safely while fire fighters doused the flames at the building site which is located close to the Address Hotel Downtown which famously caught fire on New Year’s Eve 2015.
A number of roads and interchanges leading into the area were closed while Dubai Civil Defence tackled the fire.
This is the latest in a string of fires that have struck high rise buildings in Dubai, which prompted a review of the Fire Safety regulations.
A new UAE Fire Safety Code of Practice was released by UAE authorities in February.
The Address Fountain Views is a complex consisting of three towers that will include a total of 786 serviced apartments and penthouses, plus a new Address hotel with 194 rooms.
Completion of the project is due in November this year.
