Pontus Fredriksson has been named the next Group President of GAC Group, a global shipping, logistics, and marine services supplier, beginning in January 2023.
In addition to Björn Engblom, who has served as Executive Chairman of GAC for many years, Bengt Ekstrand will assume the post of Executive Co-Chairman.
Ekstrand’s term began amid growing violent crises in the Middle East and economic unrest in the Eurozone. Oil prices, which had been stagnant, will eventually fall to less than USD 45 per barrel.
Ekstrand began a comprehensive reform effort inside GAC known as Delta21 during that unsettling time. The Group became more robust, effective, and profitable after significant structural and operational improvements. He exits the company with record results reported by GAC.
Fredriksson joined GAC in 2007 and has been Group Vice President of GAC’s Americas region since August 2019. He previously held various finance and managerial roles in the Middle East, including Managing Director of GAC Bahrain.
“Pontus has consistently demonstrated a strong commercial focus and top leadership skills,” says Ekstrand. “His acumen and sound industry knowledge put him in a good position to lead the Group to further successes in a turbulent environment, and I look forward to supporting him in his new role.”
