Hamdan bin Mohammed approves master plan and designs for Jebel Ali Beach Project
In alignment with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s visionary plan to create the world’s best public beaches in Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the Master Plan for the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project. Spanning 6.6 km, this beach aims to become a premier recreational destination emphasizing environmental preservation and local ecosystem protection. This alignment with Sheikh Mohammed’s vision inspires us to support and contribute to this significant initiative.
Project Highlights
- Environmental Focus: The project prioritizes eco-tourism, allowing visitors to observe turtles in their natural habitat. Measures will ensure turtle protection and safe nesting environments, aligning with the UAE’s efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and return turtles to their habitats.
- Architectural Design: Approved designs blend aesthetics and functionality and are tailored for various beach activities. The facilities will offer exceptional services and public amenities.
- Urban Experiences: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed emphasized the commitment to enhancing urban experiences for residents and visitors by developing infrastructure and services that promote well-being and create a healthy environment.
Broader Master Plan
The Jebel Ali Beach Development is part of a larger strategy to increase Dubai’s beach length by 400%. This involves adding new beaches and enhancing existing ones, equipping them with recreational, sports, aesthetic, and investment facilities as envisioned in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
Unique Ecosystem
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer highlighted the project’s location within the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary, a Ramsar Convention site. The beach will be Dubai’s longest public open beach, featuring a unique ecosystem supported by mangrove trees. The development will ensure minimal ecological impact by implementing sustainable construction practices, preserving the existing mangrove ecosystem, and using eco-friendly materials, while enhancing visitor experiences.
Key Features
- Diverse Recreational Areas: The beach will have a 2 km swimmable area, a 2.5 km diving sports zone, and various recreational and service areas for all ages.
- Integrated Infrastructure: Plans include a two-lane road, parking for 1,000 vehicles, 80 bicycle racks, a cycling track, and a 5 km running track.
- Three Main Locations:
- The Pearl: A hub for family beach activities, sports, and dining, including a floating restaurant.
- The Sanctuary: A conservation-focused area for turtles and natural habitats with recreational activities.
- The Nest: An educational destination within the mangrove area featuring an environmental centre and turtle rehabilitation programs.
Architectural Styles
Using locally available materials, the project’s architectural design draws inspiration from marine nature and the Boho style. Investment opportunities will include restaurants, leisure centres, and commercial kiosks.
Additional Beach Developments
Contracts for developing Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1 Beaches, extending 5.7 km, have been awarded. These beaches will transform into advanced recreational destinations with enhanced infrastructure and services.
Advanced Technology
The beaches will have advanced technology services, including Wi-Fi, electronic screens, AI-driven beach rescue services, and over 100 modern cameras for enhanced safety.
Expansion Goals
The development aims to increase beach service levels by 400%, extend night-swimmable beach lengths, and expand cycling and jogging tracks. Facilities will cater to people’s needs with determination, following global best practices.
Dubai currently boasts eight public beaches, all with Blue Flag accreditation. The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project represents a significant step towards realizing Dubai’s vision of offering world-class public beaches that combine recreation and environmental sustainability.
