Qatar Rail Company has awarded a contract worth INR 5bn ($76.5mn) to Larsen & Toubro Electrical & Automation for work on Phase 1 of the Doha Metro.
The scope of work encompasses supply, installation, testing, integration, commissioning and five years maintenance of network-wide building automation and control systems (BACS) for 37 stations, the Indian company said in a statement.
The frame agreement is through nine contracts with design & build contractors for the stations and tunnels along multiple lines (Red, Green and Gold lines) and a five-year maintenance contract directly with Qatar Rail.
Currently under construction, Doha Metro will be built in two phases: the first will see the construction of three out of the four lines (Red, Gold, and Green) and 37 stations spanning 111km of tunnels and 8.7km of viaducts.
Phase 1 has to be completed on a fast-paced project schedule for handing over all 37 stations by August 2018 with the lines expected to be open to the public by 2020.
Stage 2 will be in operation by 2026 and will involve the extension of existing lines plus the addition of a blue line and a further 72 stations.
