Ambassador of Malaysia to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) His Excellency Mohd Tarid Sufian and Consul General Mr. Mohd Hasril Abdul Hamid today visited the site of the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
They were received and accompanied by Expo officials during the visit to inspect the progress of the Malaysia Pavilion which is designed as a Rainforest Canopy. H.E. Mohd Tarid was given a tour and briefing by Malaysia’s Architect of Record, Design Integrated Architectural Engineering Consultants (DIEAC) and appointed main contractor/PICO Malaysia and its Dubai partner, RAQ Contracting LLP.
He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction progress and was pleased with the aesthetics of the pavilion, particularly the façade which features the Meranti wood as Malaysia’s signature sustainable forestry resource.
Malaysia Pavilion is themed “Energising Sustainability” to depict the country’s commitment to sustainability. This includes the sustainable management and development of its forests and natural resources. Hence, the meranti wood makes a bold appearance and statement as the building material of the façade of the Malaysia Pavilion. With its distinguished deep brownish-red tone, the red Meranti is perfect for moulding and interior woodworking.
The Malaysia Pavilion will also feature green and energy saving elements to reduce energy use by 20%. It is also the first to adopt the Net Zero Carbon approach for Expo 2020 Dubai. The Ambassador also said he expects the pavilion’s core and shell to be completed by the end of the year while work for interior fit-out, technology installation and content production will commence next year.
His Excellency thanked Expo 2020 for doing its best to accommodate the needs of the participating countries whose pavilion construction was impacted by the pandemic.
“We are pleased to see that staff and workers’ safety are a priority at the Expo site. And despite such challenging times and environment due the impact of Covid-19, Expo 2020 has overcome obstacles to ensure it successfully delivers an amazing venue. I congratulate Expo 2020 Dubai for the completion of major buildings and infrastructure at the expo site. Just looking around the wonderful modern and futuristic structures of the Expo, one can already feel the excitement and thrills which Expo 2020 promises to enthral visitors with, come 1 October 2021.”
