These contracts will expand Aramco’s gas system, boosting access to domestic gas and providing a cleaner alternative to oil for power generation
Nesma & Partners, in partnership with SICIM, is proud to announce signing significant contracts with Aramco for the Jafurah Phase II and Master Gas System (MGS) Phase III projects. These contracts will contribute to extending Aramco’s Master Gas System, allowing improved access to domestic gas supplies for the industrial sector, utilities, and others while providing a lower gas emission substitute to oil in power generation. Saudi Aramco expects to achieve a sales gas production increase of more than 60% (in comparison to 2021) by 2030 once its strategic gas expansion project is completed.
We are also excited to announce a strategic joint venture between Nesma & Partners and SICIM, an international leader in constructing oil and gas pipelines and facilities. This joint venture will handle the Jafurah Phase II and MGS Phase III projects, leveraging the companies’ combined expertise and resources to deliver exceptional results.
The joint venture will execute EPC packages 10 and 14 works on the third expansion phase of the Master Gas System network (MGS-3) in Saudi Arabia; both packages will involve the laying of pipelines: package 10 requires the laying of a 56-inch pipeline spanning 310 km from sector one STS-2 to sector two STS-1, while package 14 involves the laying of 212 km of pipelines of varying diameters in the Shoaiba area.
Guido Cagnani, Managing Director and Vice President of SICIM conveyed his confidence in being part of the project: “The project presents unique challenges, especially about laying pipelines with large diameters in rough and mountainous terrain. SICIM has been operating in the territory since 2018. It will plan the operations in detail to manage the times, costs, and regulatory and environmental impacts of transporting pipelines in areas that are not easily accessible.”
The Jafurah Phase II project is a pivotal element of Saudi Aramco’s strategy to develop the Jafurah gas field, the largest unconventional gas field in Saudi Arabia, estimated to contain 229 trillion standard cubic feet of raw gas and 75 billion Stock Tank Barrels of condensate. This initiative aims to boost the Kingdom’s natural gas production, supporting economic diversification and energy security in line with Saudi Vision 2030. Nesma & Partners will undertake extensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities, focusing on critical infrastructure to ensure the seamless delivery of this mega-project.
Gas compression facilities and associated pipelines will be constructed as part of the Jafurah phase two expansion, including the construction of gas processing trains, utilities, sulfur, and export facilities. In addition, the Riyas Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) fractionation facilities in Jubail will process the NGL acquired from Jafurah.
Samer Abdul Samad, President & CEO of Nesma & Partners, expressed his enthusiasm for these projects: “Securing these contracts with Saudi Aramco is a testament to our expertise and dedication to excellence in delivering complex and large-scale projects. Our joint venture with SICIM brings together unparalleled experience and capabilities, and we are honoured to support Aramco in its strategic initiatives. We are committed to achieving the highest safety, quality, and efficiency standards.”
