A new UAE Fire Safety Code is likely to be delayed by a few weeks until next month, according to a senior official.
Major General Expert Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, director of Dubai Civil Defence, made the comments during an announcement of a new award for innovation in fire safety which will be launched during
the sixth annual Fire Safety Technology Forum on April 27.
The launch of an updated code was spurred by a recent spate of fires in high rise towers, including a very high profile incident and the Address Downtown Hotel on New Year’s Eve. It was originally planned to be released this month.
New regulations will require installing a fire non-flammable insulation every two floors of the buildings to stop fires from spreading, local media reports say.
