Tenable FEC’s Dubai director, Sam Alcock, has over a decade’s experience in a range of fire engineering consultancy roles. Sam joined Tenable FEC’s Oman office as a fire consultant and was tasked with handling Dubai’s operations, an opportunity that allowed him to grow and nurture the business before being officially appointed as Director. In the four years since his appointment, Sam has built a grassroots team made up of local and global talent, established relationships with some of the country’s most renowned developers and consultants, and provided services to some of the UAE’s most iconic projects, including Sheikh Zayed Memorial, Etihad Museum and Zayed National Museum and the AED 2 billion One@Palm Jumeirah.
Under the supervision of Sam Alcock, Tenable FEC has built a reputation for delivering some of the region’s most robust and professional fire and life safety strategies, demonstrating the company’s commitment to raising fire engineering consultancy services regionally and further afield. In 2020 and 2021, Tenable FEC consulted on and provided services for some of the region’s most prestigious project, including museums, private islands, Expo 2020 Dubai pavilions and several of Saudi Arabia’s giga-projects. Despite the travel restrictions resulting from COVID-19, the team has also worked and is currently working on several international projects, including Hilton Doubletree in Bahrain, a boutique hotel in Kenya and a hotel and residences in Egypt.
Among Sam’s strengths as a leader is his ability to mentor and positively influence his team. He empowers employees to take ownership of their roles and has created a culture of responsibility, in which every employee’s safety-first approach speaks to the importance of the company’s role in achieving fire and life safety and ensuring the preservation of life in the built environment.
While Sam’s leadership style has not changed during COVID-19, he has actively assessed every aspect of the business to ensure his team is safe and has placed equal focus on employees’ physical and mental health. For the majority of Tenable FEC’s employees, working from home has been a new experience. Having worked alone for a period when establishing the Dubai office, Sam is acutely aware that remote working challenges are not limited to logistics. He, therefore, has ensured his open-door policy evolved to become a virtual open-door policy.
