Qatar Rail has completed tunneling work on the Doha Metro and the project is now 50 percent complete.
Its taken 21 tunnel boring machines two years to complete the 111km of tunnels, Qatar media reported following an event to mark the milestone attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Qatar Rail has already begun installing electrical equipment and completing the structure of the 37 stations that make up the first phase.
There will be four lines in total: Red, Green, Gold and Blue, with over 100 stations across a total length of more than 200 kilometers.
The first train is scheduled to be delivered by the third of quarter of next year and passenger traffic is due to begin early 2020.
