Six Construct has completed the upgrade of Al Rayyan Road, one of the main arteries in Doha, Qatar.
The subsidiary of the BESIX Group carried out the project in collaboration with M/s Boom Construction Company.
The site teams major role was to construct two massive concrete underpasses, each 650m long, 50m wide and up to 15m deep, said Nicolas Bruyninckx, Project Director of Al Rayyan Road.
Both underpasses have been fully built, and each underpass was built using 260,000 m3 of concrete and 20,000T of reinforcement, on top of which 80,000T of asphalt was laid.
Apart from the underpasses, the team also completed three cable tunnels, reaching a total length of 1.1 km. They also built three critical substations and pulled all LV/MV cables required to energise the street lighting.
The Ashghal Expressway project team recently opened the road for beneficial use to the general public.
Work is substantially completed (90%) allowing members of the public to drive on the newly-built permanent road while the project team finishes minor activities, such as landscaping work.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, His Excellency Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, the Minister of Municipality and Environment, His Excellency Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, and the President of Ashghal Eng His Excellency Saad Bin Ahmed Bin Ibrahim Al-Muhannadi.
A few days before the opening, Qatars Prime Minister, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, also visited the project to witness the progress of the work.
The Six Construct Boom Construction JV also received a certificate of appreciation from Ashghal for The Best Project Across The Expressway Program Toward Workers Welfare Platinum Level, as well as a certificate for achieving 4 million man-hours without lost time incident, whilst constructing and upgrading the Al Rayyan Road in Doha, Qatar.
