SSH has been confirmed as the design lead for a new 800-bed childrens hospital in Kuwait.
The project was awarded to firm on a design-award-construct basis in association with global architects HKS and engineering firm WSP.
The 300,000sqm tertiary childrens hospital – located within the Al Sabah Specialty Medical Area, in Al-Shuwaikh – will be the largest of its kind in the world, SSH said in a statement.
The design concept incorporates state-of-the-art technology and energy conservation and will be built using the highest standards of construction, materials and equipment, the company added.
Non-healthcare structures, functions and services are also part of the scope which includes 2,400 car parking spaces, a helipad to support emergency air transport services and a day care centre dedicated to children of staff working at the proposed facility.
Kuwaits Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works announced the decision at the Arab Health conference in Dubai.
