WME has completed the design for the internal and external roads connecting Nakheel Mall to its surrounding road network on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah.
Challenging site conditions include the ongoing construction works for the mall, existing major infrastructure and the fully-operational elevated monorail running through the middle of the site, the engineering consultant said on its website.
WME is lead engineer for the project, delivering structural, building services, AV/IT, fire and sustainability engineering — working closely with master developer Nakheel and architect RSP.
Working to a fast-track schedule, with works already under way, WME has less than a year to deliver the design work and six months for site supervision relating to the road components, it said. The roads are due for completion in early 2017.
This includes access roads, elevated ramps, tunnels and pavement improvements linking the mall parking to the surrounding road network.
Nakheel Mall is a 450,000 square foot concrete frame structure, sited on a residential island at the top of the main trunk of Palm Jumeirah.
A monorail runs down the spine, bisecting the mall site — requiring careful attention to clearances, approvals and permissions. Major sewage, drainage and lighting infrastructure for the island is already located under the plot and can’t be interrupted.
