The Awards

The Innovation in Construction & FM awards 2020 is one of the leading events applauding the achievements of the region’s construction and FM professionals. The awards strive to recognise individual excellence, corporate strengths, and project success. Companies are invited to nominate the people, projects, and initiatives of which they are most proud of, across 18 categories in construction and 11 categories in FM.

The awards presentation will happen at a gala dinner in a five-star venue – a celebration which has proven to be a great social occasion and essential networking opportunity. Winners will receive a commemorative trophy, plus extensive print and online coverage of their success in Construction Business News ME. Company Awards

This award category recognises the outstanding main contractor active in the regional construction sector in the 12 months to the end of September 2020. Judges will be looking for an exemplary track record of delivering a number of high-quality projects to clients on time and on budget during this period and to the highest standards of safety.
Entries for the Contractor of the Year category should support their nomination with no more than 500 words and include the following information:
  • Name of the company, workforce, headquarters
  • Financial results for the previous two years or nearest estimates
  • Demonstrate ways in which the company has grown in the past year in terms of revenue, profit, opening new offices, expanding its service offering
  • Details of all new contracts won during this period
  • Details of projects completed during the period

  • Evidence of an impeccable safety record

The award will go to the outstanding MEP contractor operating in the regional construction market in the 12 months to the end of September 2020.Judges will be looking for an exemplary track record of delivering a number of outstanding MEP projects to clients on time and on budget during this period and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Entries for the MEP Contractor of the Year category should support their nomination with no more than 500 words and include the following information:

Contenders for the Consultant of the Year award will need to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering a number of exceptional projects in the 12 months to the end of September 2020. Judges will award extra merit for evidence of innovation and successful delivery of complex, ambitious projects. All types of construction consultancy companies (quantity surveyors, cost consultants, engineering consultants, project management consultants, etc) are qualified to nominate.
Entries for the Consultant of the Year category should support their nomination with no more than 500 words and include the following information:

  • Demonstrate ways in which the company has grown in the past year in terms of revenue, profit, opening new offices, expanding its service offering

This category recognises the outstanding property developer active in the regional market in the 12-month period to the end of September 2020. Judges will be looking for an exemplary track record of delivering a range of outstanding projects on time during this period and to the highest standards. Preference will be given to entrants that provide evidence of innovation, complexity, productivity, and quality.
Entries for the Real Estate Developer of the Year category should support their nomination with no more than 500 words and include the following information:

Entries should focus on at least one example of specific innovation. This could be a new trailblazing innovation that exemplifies innovative design and function, or a ground-breaking process that changed how a project was delivered.
The innovation could be site or office based, and entrants should be clear whether the innovation lies in performance, cost, health & safety, reliability or other factors, and provide supporting evidence.
Entries from Best Innovation in Construction Award should support their nomination with no more than 500 words and include the following information:

Individual Awards

The award for CEO of the Year will go to the executive who can demonstrate delivering outstanding results at his or her organisation during the previous 12 months. The category is open to CEOs and other senior executives working at any company operating within the GCC construction sector during the period.
Entrants for the CEO of the Year category should support their nomination by providing the following information in no more than 500 words:
  • Name of the person, his full job title, job duration with the Company
  • Evidence of the company’s growth and financial success during his/her tenure

This award will go to an individual that has made an outstanding contribution to the construction and real estate sector in the region during his/her career. This award will be chosen by a panel of judges.
The Rising Star of the Year award will go to the individual who has demonstrated the greatest level of professional development and is somebody to watch out for in the future. Entrants for the Rising Star of the Year category should support their nomination by providing the following information in no more than 500 words:

  • Positively contributed to the operational performance of their employer
  • Demonstrated their ability to work effectively as part of a team

The Commercial Project of the Year Award will be awarded to the office project that makes an important contribution to its surroundings, demonstrates construction best practice, and can show how construction techniques and technology have contributed to its success within 12 months till end of September 2020.

The award for overall FM Company of the Year will go to the company that can demonstrate how it has had the greatest impact on the FM-related business. The winning company is well-respected, with a solid reputation among customers and the industry as a whole. Its all-round performance in the FM industry over the past year, as exhibited by in its ongoing involvement in flagship contracts and/or projects, will have built on a track record characterized by service excellence, delivery and innovation.
Entries for the Overall FM Company of the Year should answer the following questions in a total of no more than 500 words::

The award for Sanitation & Waste Management Company of the Year will go to the company that can demonstrate the best record of progress and delivery for its clients, while maintaining an exemplary HSE record and showing signs of commercial strength and growth.

The winner of the award will be a company that has excelled in within its active MEP operations, developed and/or implemented the latest cutting-edge technologies and practices, as well continuing to advance the technical proficiency of their employees.

Jury

David Armstrong

Director for Building Consultancy Team at CBRE

David is an accomplished project manager and senior team leader with 20 years’ expertise in the built environment for public and private sector clients. David has worked in the Middle East (UAE, Oman, and KSA) for 13 years after starting his career in the UK. His experience encompasses commercial, programme, and project management on a wide range of projects, including new-build, master-planning, infrastructure and fit-out. Having been with CBRE for the past six years, his responsibilities include business development, consultancy, and project delivery. He is a member of the Association for Project Management (MAPM) also a valued member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and former chair of the UAE National Association. David continues to chair regular RICS APC and senior professional assessment panels.
David completed a Civil Engineering degree and an MSc in Project and Environmental Engineering at Leeds University, before working at Kellogg Brown & Root and EC Harris. His particular focus has been in coordinating large commercial office projects and has built a high level of trust amongst clients and colleagues.

Nick Witty

Managing Director MENA at Chestertons

Nick Witty holds 20 years of MENA property market expertise.
Witty is the Managing Director for Chestertons, based in Dubai, and holds over twenty-eight years’ experience in real estate advisory, including acquisition and disposal, development feasibility, facilities and property management, leasing, marketing, and valuations.
He has been permanently based in the Middle East since 1998, including five years in Jeddah, KSA. Prior to joining Chestertons, Witty was Head of Real Estate (Northern Gulf) for Deloitte and Regional Managing Director for DTZ (Cushman Wakefield), based in Doha.
Key clients include banks, developers, government departments, multi-national corporates, and investors located around the wider Gulf region including Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, KSA, and the UAE.
Witty qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1992 whilst working for DTZ in London and is also a Registered Valuer of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
